How to make your Knotted Boa:
~Will make a boa approx. 72-108 inches long.
~ Create 5-6 strands of finger chains measuring approx. 120 inches long each, adding beads and embellishments as you desire.
~ Why Chain?
Chaining is of course optional, and if your yarn is bulky enough (such as my handspun or any super bulky yarn), you only need to hold a few strands together and begin knotting. If your working yarn is not very bulky, chaining will make your working strands thicker and give your scarf more structure. You are basically making your own bulky yarn from a lighter weight yarn. (eg. 4-6 strands worsted weight = 1 strand of super bulky weight) (How to make a Finger Knit Chain… instructions below…)
~ Add beads and embellishments to your yarn as you knot the chains. (Embellishment ideas below…)
~ Knot your boa… knot the chains together any place or as many times as you desire to achieve the look you like. Make at least 2 knots that include all of the strands. Try your boa on occasionally to be sure the knots lay in desirable places, for example, you may not want a big ‘ole knot right at the back of your neck. (see sketch below)
~ Try knotting different groups of chains at varying intervals. If one chain seems too long, tie a few more knots until it’s the right length.
